Doug Anderson
I feel very fortunate to have practiced family medicine in the Comox Valley for 24 years. Along with my wife Jacquie, a teacher, we have raised 3 children. I have a special interest in music and play jazz guitar, performing in various settings. I enjoy exploring Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands, volunteering at a summer camp, gardening, reading and discussing Kierkegaard

Originally from Ucluelet, BC. I enjoy kayaking, paddle boarding, scuba diving, hiking, and anything by or on the ocean. I have been 2 years with the Clinic and joined the group after my residency training there and find our Comox Medical Clinic family to be a fantastic group of very supportive and friendly physicians and staff.

Born and raised in the Comox Valley, I can’t think of a better place to have returned to practice medicine and raise a family. I love the ability to enjoy life and outdoor recreation on a regular basis whether it is world class mountain biking trails or salmon fishing after finishing up a day in the office. Going on 7 years with the Comox Medical Clinic, I also can’t think of a better group of colleagues who truly support and look out for each other.

Ed Howard
Born in Toronto & raised in Saskatchewan, I made my way out west to the Comox Valley in 2001. Immediately it was clear that this was a gem of a place to live. With the mild weather, lush forests, proximity to the ocean & mountains, there is a lot to do & explore; but what I love most is the friendly community that has now been my home for over 20 years. My wife & I have raised 4 kids here, and we have been involved in a multitude of activities including camping, snowboarding, sailing, dance & theatre. Most days though, I enjoy spending time in our garden, strolling through a forested trail, or taking a quick trip down to Goose Spit Park to paddle board in Comox Bay

In 2002 I moved with my family to the valley to to join my long time friend Doug Anderson at the Comox Medical Clinic. I have always been amazed and drawn to the beauty of this place and the opportunities for my wife and kids and I to pursue the ever changing and developing interests we all shared. Now 20 years on, many of those initial interests have changed and morphed into other new pursuits but our connection here will always be rooted in the friendships and sense of belonging that we have - whether here at the clinic or the endlessly intersecting aspects of the community life we enjoy.

I have always enjoyed the breadth of family medicine and cherish the longitudinal relationship I have with my patients. My other interest is oncology and work as GPO at the Comox Valley Hosptial which provides me with a great work balance. I feel grateful to work with such an amazing group of witty colleagues who always support each other.

Rick Potter-Cogan
It has been my privilege to practice Family Medicine at Comox Medical Clinic since 1996. I learned from an early mentor, doctor means “teacher”, and over the years I have had the opportunity to play a role in the training of many students and residents who had worked with patients in my practice. I enjoy knowing patients and help them understand their story and set them back on track to their life before illness when possible, and treat symptoms as needed.
Away from work I enjoy time with my family on the water, in the alpine, and the wonderful Comox Valley. In recent years I have especially enjoyed fishing with my son, gardening with my wife, and tennis with friends. I cannot imagine a better place to live.
Meet our Staff
-
Candice brings her years of experience, professionalism, and easy going manner to the office every single day. Her leadership fosters a quiet sense of stability and has developed a culture of respect, integrity and inclusion that provides the basis for what the Comox Medical Clinic is about.

Offering a wide range of services to Comox Medical Clinic patients including daily phlebotomy, pap smears, wound care, suture removal and billable two way communication and education with patients, our nursing team provides amazing support to our patients and physicians alike.
-
Professional, courteous and just plain outstanding in the way they care for our patients and each other. Patients may not always remember what you did for them but they will always remember the way you made them feel. Our staff excel on this front and that is a comment we hear from patients over and over again.

Our Clinic
We currently have 7 physicians who share the office time working together from full time (4 office days a week) to part time (2 office days per week). Many of us actually began as a full-time locum and ultimately decided to stay on full-time. Since the start of the pandemic we have operated in a hybrid system seeing patients both in-person and via telehealth. Our team of professional and thoughtful MOA’s provide personalized and individual care to every patient from the moment they walk in the door. Under the experienced leadership of our full time office manager we enjoy the benefits of an office environment built on mutual respect, integrity and shared common goals and experience.
The Comox Medical Clinic was started in 1958 and has steadily grown over the years. In 2005 we we designed and built a new clinic. Now with a comfortable reception area, 12 large and inviting exam rooms, 2 physician collaboration offices, staff room and kitchen with floor to ceiling windows and a nursing centre we have room to grow.
While every exam room is equipped with a workstation and printer, thoughtful design ensures that technology never takes away from the the personal encounter with patients. Fully stocked procedure trolleys are available to all rooms for quick impromptu suturing , planned skin biopsies, IUD insertions or endometrial sampling. With our own autoclave system sterile instruments are always in stock and ready when you are.
